I’m sorry to anyone who has a bad day at work. I’m sorry to anyone who is having troubles at home with a spouse or misbehaving children. I’m sorry to anyone who has a boss who is not so nice or “too nice”. I’m sorry if you have a loved one who is ill. I’m sorry to anyone that isn’t feeling great today. Truly, I am.
However, if any of those things is happening….none of those things are from anything I’ve done. So, PLEASE….please, do not be rude or hateful to others you encounter throughout your day. It is of no fault to the cashier at the gas station or the teller at the bank and certainly not me….who is hopefully bringing you delicious food & often much needed, adult beverages at the end of your work day.
I completely understand if you are not in the mood to make small talk. That is 100% your prerogative if you do not wish to be bothered other than the required questions and answers we must exchange so that I may present you with what you desire to eat and drink. Provided I give you great service, please remember I depend 100% on tips to pay my bills. Would you want to go to your job and work all day for no pay?? That is exactly what is occurring if you do not tip your server. (All of this is assuming you have a good experience and good service from your server.)
$2.13 That is the hourly rate for most restaurant servers. At 40 hours a week, that’s $85 and all of that and then some, is eaten up paying taxes for the tips we must claim.
Bad service=bad tips. I 100% understand this concept. I just ask, please remember that long wait times to be seated, receive your food or the quality of your food are of no fault to your server. The guys in the kitchen make their hourly rate regardless of how long it takes them to get the food out. Alas, it more often than not, affects our percentage of gratuity. If something is my fault, I own it. 100% of the time. I do not hesitate to apologize and explain my mistake and have it remedied immediately. That is what good servers do. Just as in life. We all make mistakes…..we are human. So, remember to be nice to the next human you encounter. 🙂
